During our Spring Break of 2017, we visited the rural areas right outside of Lucknow, the capital of the Northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Our mom grew up here, so we had a deep connection for this city and the ability to reach out to nearby schools outside of the city. Here, we found that the girls had the means to access pads, but we also made other discoveries. When we asked the girls if they knew why their periods happened, or if they talked to their mother when they got their first period, the girls shook their heads "no." We knew that by simply imparting information, we could impact their lives and help them take matters into their own hands.
During this visit, we also distributed the companion comic books purchased from Menstrupedia, to go with the "Hello Periods!" educational video to each school to keep as a reference. More importantly, we gave each girl a copy of our MAHI Project brochure that we created for this visit. Saloni and I drafted, formatted, and translated the half-page pamphlet for the girls to keep. You can find this under the OUR PROJECT tab!
